  1. Thanks for the amazing App!!!!! Super excited to see that its free on the playbook. Only thing I'm wondering is how do I add my own songs?

I see the folder with songs on AirBrowser but is there a template to add new songs? Thanks!

  2. Hi Bosco, glad that you like this app. To add your own songs, you can try find the ChordPro files from the internet, or you can create your own. It's quite simple to create your own actually. If you open one of the example songs, you can see how ChordPro files are written.

As a starter, you can just write the lyric in plain text file, and insert the chord for that particular word or syllable inside a square bracket '[]'

    For example:

    [C]This is an [F]exam[G]ple [G7]ly[C]ric.
    [Bb]This is the [Gdim]second [F#]line of the [C]lyric.

Observe the first line: Chord C will appear on top of letter 'T' of word 'This'. F will appear on top of letter 'e' and G will appear on top of letter 'p' of word 'example' and so on.

Once you have the file ready, name the file with the song title (e.g. my_song_title.txt) and then you can copy it to the folder with songs that you saw. And voila it will be inside the app :)

  3. thanks, i was just wondering the same thing ;)
I'd love to be able to create songs within the app, is that something that is possible?
Otherwise I'm loving the usability and interface of hymnsongbook, it's beautiful and SO handy! Now I just need to get into some situations where I can prove it... time for me to learn guitar and get back into the old Salvo "open air" meetings of our early days - LOL!

  4. It would be nice if the Blackberry Curve 9300 were supported. Is this a touchscreen-only thing?

  5. Hi Michael, this app is designed for touchscreen and specifically optimized for blackberry playbook. It will require some drastic UI change if it were to be ported for mobile phone. And as for the moment, there is no plan to do that. :)

  6. Great app. I put my scripture songs in this format for a long time already. Not sure why the format isn't more popular. Used to use it on my palm pda's. I use it on my Mac desktop. Haven't found android app yet. Appreciate your work to bring it to the playbook.

  7. LOVE THIS APP! it saves me from carrying my hymns with me everywhere. I'm in the process of adding more hymns, it's so easy. thanks so much. i'm going to tell all my Christian friends. One suggestion would be to have the option to change the font for the lyrics, title, comment, etc.
And one question, I notice for the syntax, chorus has {soc} and {eoc}. I can only guess the 'soc' means 'start of chorus' and 'eoc' is 'end of chorus'. but what do they do? when i omit them, i don't notice any difference. I'm soo glad you guys made this! =D and many more ppl will be too when they find out.

    1. Thanks Kat =)

For now you can only change the font color and font size, but yes not the font type itself. I'll take note of that.

As for soc and eoc, you are correct, but my app currently doesn't handle that tag. So with or without it, it will look the same.

  8. Love the app!!!! Would there be any plans for auto scroll?

  9. Love the app!!!!!!!!!!! Just wondering if there was any thought of auto scroll being included. I would love to use my playbook instead of using lyrics in binders.

    1. Thanks Dave -)

There are features planned for the update and it's one of them. But I'm afraid I can't promise when it will be in due to lack of spare time to do it.

  11. Great app, I've been using it for a few months so I do have a few suggestions.
One important one is the fact that the main screen is only viewable in landscape mode, I would find it easier to always leave it in portrait mode and be able to hide and show the song list, that would save me from having to pick up the playbook in between songs to find a song and then display it in full screen.
Another option that would be cool but I'm sure would require quite a bit of programing would be the capacity to create set lists.
Thanks for this app!! It's really useful and a blessing to me and the church.

  13. Amazing app! Could it be possibly be brought to the Z10?

  14. Wow great app!
Thanks for making this and providing it for free.
As others have mentioned, an auto scroll feature and the ability to make set lists would be nice.

As for those asking about editing songs on the playbook, since they are just text files, just download a text editor from BlackBerry World. There are several free ones. I am using one called TextEdit. Works great.

    Thanks again.
